I can finally view webcams in GAIM

First what is GAIM? GAIM is an all-in-one
Instant Messenger for Linux. It supports Yahoo, AOL, MSN, ICQ,
IRC, Jabber, and a few more. In Linux, it’s one of the top
choices for instant messenging.
OK, so what about this webcam thing? Why am
I so happy about it? Well it’s because GAIM does not support
webcams. So after months and months of hoping, I decided to
search our good old friend google for webcam support in GAIM. And
in less than a minute, I was able to find GAIM-VV.
GAIM what? VV - it stands for Video and Voice (or Voice and Video
- whichever you like). And since I like installing things the
easy way, I decided to look for a Debian package for it. Another
minute with Google and I found a debian package for GAIM-VV 1.2.0.Next step for me was to uninstall GAIM, and install the GAIM-VV
packages. I then tried running gaim - error. No such
file. I then thought, I should be running gaim-vv. So
that’s what I did and poof, I got connected.

It’s now time for testing. I was lucky to find Benj Arriola
online. I asked him to switch on his webcam for me and invite me
to view his webcam. I got the invitation, clicked OK and
kazaammmm - there was Benj!!!! Perfect. Sad to say, GAIM-VV
doesn’t support broadcasting of webcams *yet*.

I then asked Benj if we can try a voice conference but for some reason,
I don’t see any controls for voice chat. So, being used to Linux,
I relaxed and accepted the fact… Hehehehe. Anyway, if
anyone here knows how to enable voice chat in GAIM-VV, please tell me.

And now, I’m happy to tell you all that you can start inviting me to view your webcams so I can see you.

To the makers of GAIM-VV, keep up the good work!!!
